We Lived In St. Charles, MO, Mom Worked In Ferguson

I graduated from St. Charles HS. Mom worked as the head checker at a Kroger store in Ferguson.

At St. Charles HS, there were only 2 black kids. One was on the basketball team as was I. David was well behaved, well dressed, well spoken, well liked. We were buds. I was welcome at his house. He, however, was NOT welcome in mine, sadly.

Not sure what it all means... times were different then.

And all that fhl gets out of this is that Scat played basketball.

Why am I not surprised?

I could dunk. ;)

Oh sure, brag about THAT! I was 6'4" and couldn't. I could get my hand on the rim, but not with a ball in it. (Interesting... I've had lots of dreams where I could rebound, dunk with 2 hands for 20-30 pts/game.)

I did, however, have a good fade-away jumper (not so much jump as "fade") that was virtually unblockable and that I could hit with high percentage.

I once hit 51 free throws in a row. Not world-beating, but not chopped liver, either.

St. Charles is "west of The River". It's a "different world" out there compared to east of the river and suburban St. Louis.

No doubt.

St. Charles is about 25 miles West of St. Louis... along I70. All along populated with smaller towns... Ferguson, Florissant, St. Ann, Webster Groves, Normandy, others.

I would think St. Charles has become "more suburban" and "less rural" since my stint in that area way back when. ;)

Likely so. When I lived there, population ~ 20K. Now, >100K. The entire "I70 corridor" has become like one large, urban city. The spaces between towns have been built in.
