We are not livestock

The problem with socialism is that it punishes those who succeed....and even in socialistic states like California, you can see what happened....they took control of the power plants and punished the big companies.....so all these upstart companies went to Texas and now are living high on the hog, while these state controlled power companies are bankrupt.

Didn't the same thing happen in England when they turned the railroads over to the state? Isn't that what's happening right now with Amtrak in the US? They're still a private company, right? Apparently the demand cannot keep up with their operating costs -- so why is it still running? Aren't they billions of dollars in debt?

It's kind of like the Florida marlins....SHUT_EM DOWN!!!!

I also think they should let a lot of these airlines under..

Socialists love the poor. That must be why they create so many of them.

They stand tall for social justice. That's why they admire Fidel so much.

At least they protect the environment. That must be why eastern europe was so pristine after the Soviets got through with it.

If the secret accounts of all the socialist and social democrat politicians were withdrawn, half the banks in switzerland would close.

One trait of socialist societies is the very worst people thrive, the sort of people who relish wielding absolute power over their serfs. Kind of like the people who served in the Clinton administration.

I don't think that communism, like religion etc... is bad on concept level, it is when it comes to practical realisation of the persons who used it as pretext for hiding their true objective that things then go wrong. Islam is not saying to kill people with bombs but it doesn't prevent that terrorist states use it to justify their crime. Just remark that they don't need justification for themselves it is for the people they are using as soldiers. It is the same thing for communism. Really you read Karl Marx Manifesto and it seems that many ideas are just good common sense but it occults design details because as I said it is when you look at the design that you can foresee some flaw if you are some careful people and when it comes to realisation it becomes obvious to the mass but not to all that's the problem: if it is not always possible to fool all the people it is still possible to fool a great percentage of them so let's say you want to fool everybody just create as many fool ideas that correspond to the profile of the target and everybody almost will be fooled. So the pro-capitalist (with their variants anarcho-capitalists etc...) and the pro-communists (with also their variants more or less soft socialism etc... ) can both be fooled and opposing them with each other is just the divide and conquer basic strategy to achieve the unique aim.

And it will be like that perhaps during 1000 years before people become wise enough not to be fooled because it is very easy to fool them: just use their interest sense and they can defend the most crual regime or idiot organisation with "human" argument of making good to humanity haha. Today sects are using the human rights as their first argument.

My point is: no politicial party to fool the people but I don't see any organisation that proposes that so I must be alone on the planet or what :D

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

Some of the other threads have inspired discussions of life under socialism. Many find it threatening, others civilizing. I think history has recorded accurately that it is deeply flawed, but there is more to the debate than simple economics. Just as the superior GDP growth of a totally capitalist society does not mean it is the ideal environment, the apparent leisure and carefree attributes of socialism mask an underlying threat.

Author and commentator Thomas Sowell has written that socialism seeks to treat people as livestock. People in a socialist society have their basic needs met, after a fashion, but they lack control over important aspects of their lives. Something as basic as where you live can be a decision for the Housing Cpommitte, not you. The allure of free medical care loses some luster when you cannot choose your physician. Of course, everyone has a job, if they want one, but the Labor Committee will tell you where you work. Some rights lib's here are obsessed with are protected, like the right to an abortion, even if you don't want one. How many children to have is a decision for the state to help you with.

At least the elderly can live in dignity. Well, unless they need medical care. No sense wasting it on people who are about to die anyway. Of course, exceptions can be made. For the Party elites. Some farm animals are more equal than others, it seems.

What's wrong with trying to make a profit from public utilities?

Nothing, as long as the people can still afford it and it's always available. The problem occurs when the people/companies that control the systems (power, water, etc.) have no accountability to the public.
