my advice from being an advocate for my very sick sister is that YOU need to be proactive in your care- everything from asking questions about different drugs, to, if needbe, moving to another hospital which has more expertise with a situation such as yours. doctors/hospitals are not one to admit that something is a bit out of their league- even when it is.
just remember, it's your life and your future at stake. don't worry about pissing people off if there is reason to question your treatment. doctors aren't created equal any more than traders. you're obviously a smart guy and i'm not exactly breaking news with this post. just wanted to share my opinions based upon watching doctors who were in over their heads stumble along for 10 years until my sister finally got to a specialist who correctly diagnosed her (unfortunately too late to undo the damage that the disease has inflicted on her).
if it were me, i'd be making sure i've got the "A" team working on me...
