Obama admin spends $300,000 to study how bikes work…really

This one comes via the great Bonnie Kristian, known on Tumblr as “Hipster Libertarian.” She spotted this grant award on the National Science Foundation website, and it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.

from the Week:

Apparently feeling that “even the simplest models of a bicycle with a rigidly attached rider have yet to be completely understood,” the National Science Foundation spent $300,000 on a nearly four-year study of how bikes work.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of California, Davis and was titled “Human Control of Bicycle Dynamics with Experimental Validation and Implications for Bike Handling and Design.” Despite the extensive research that goes into designing bikes for events like the Tour de France, the study begins by claiming that the last century of research “has resulted in no useful design guidelines for the construction of bicycles with desired handling qualities.” Worse yet, “Deeper questions regarding the fundamental control methods and objectives of a human rider also remain unanswered.”

The researchers distilled their results into a slide presentation that establishes key points like the fact that bicyclists use their eyes, ears, and sense of touch while riding. The slideshow also features video of a researcher attempting unsuccessfully to ride a bike on a treadmill.

Wait…you use your eyes, eyes, AND your sense of touch on a bike? No freaking way!

That’s right…the Federal government completely ignores the millions upon millions of dollars that have been spent on understanding and honing bike technology from from race teams and manufacturers. Instead, they pay a bunch of goofball academics to try to ride granny bikes on treadmills, and they’re doing it with your money.

Feds spend $2 million to get elderly to join choirs

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has spent more than $2 million to promote how joining a community choir can be beneficial to older adults.

The government is currently financing a five-year project that is recruiting 450 “minority elders” to participate in choirs at senior centers in San Francisco.

The premise of the study, entitled, “Community Choirs to Promote Healthy Aging and Independence of Older Adults,” is that the country is facing a demographic crisis and needs to prepare for a larger elderly population.

“The United States is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of older adults. In 2009, there were 39.6 million individuals over age 65, and this number is expected to almost double by 2030,” the NIH grant states. “During the same time period, there will be an increase in the number of older adults with diverse racial/ethnic and socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds who are at increased risk for poor health outcomes relative to non-minority elders.”

“Thus, there is an immediate need to identify cost-effective, widely applicable, and sustainable programs that promote health and well-being of older adults,” it said.

What kind of moron even thinks this shit up?

And worse, our tax dollars are paying their salary.

But the left will tell us how the Government is in a better position to spend our money than we are.

Not that much of a surprise... considering how the US Government once spent nearly $1 Million to educate African men that they should "wash their dick after having sex".

Just how does it benefit Americans to waste tax dollars on such stupid shit?

Department Of Labor To Spend Over $1 Million Fighting Discrimination ... In Mexico

The Department of Labor announced Tuesday it plans to spend nearly $1.4 million “to support anti-discrimination labor laws in Mexico.”

“Countries like Mexico are making welcome progress in reforming laws to better protect workers from discrimination and harassment based on gender or sexual orientation,” said Carol Pier, deputy undersecretary of labor for international affairs. “This project will support the Mexican government’s efforts to more effectively enforce such non-discrimination provisions of the Mexican Federal Labor Law Reform of 2012.”

Applications for the grant “must be submitted in English” by 4 p.m. on Nov. 7, so get cracking! The DOL says their goal is to “increase compliance with the expanded protections against labor discrimination under Mexican labor law, with a specific focus on combating gender discrimination, forced pregnancy testing, sexual harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation,” and that “the successful grantee” must be prepared to “design and implement public awareness campaigns” and “revise existing inspection methodologies and materials to reflect the 2012 legal reforms.”

The Mexican Federal Labor Law Reform of 2012 has been called ”one of the most significant legislative developments of the administration led by former President Felipe Calderón.” Among other things, it defines sexual harassment and bullying as fireable offenses, repealed the closed-shop rule requiring workers ousted from their unions to be fired, grants fathers at least five days of paternity leave and explicitly states that “it is unlawful to discriminate on account of national or ethnic origin, sex, age, health, disability, religion, migratory status, sexual orientation, or civil status.”

The grant-winner will be announced by Dec. 31.

I must admit I'm running out of adjectives to describe the utter out of control complete lunacy of our fucked up beyond belief incompetent federal government and it's numerous unnecessary and even unconstitutional agencies.
