You'll notice MIT's BPP is similar to the BLS whereas Shadowstats is in another world.


I don't believe shadowstat's methodology. Really, the annual rate of inflation is not over 10%.

Shadowstats uses the methodology from pre-revision (back in 94, I think it was - it will tell you). MIT's project uses a different calculation and neither refutes the other method.

The BLS is a whole different story as the published methodology is flawed and has been called out numerous times.

As for whether the inflation rate is over 10%, that depends on what items you are referring to. Peanut Butter, for instance, is up 22% vs. prior year.

My property taxes are up 14% this year, while my house is worth less.

BTW, so far as I know none of the inflation calculations look at taxes. It's my single greatest expense by far, and not even counted.
