If his password didn't change on ET, the fact he just emailed someone saying "I was hacked" is even more incriminating so he probably just dug his own hole. Not to mention the facebook activity in the meantime.
Sometimes it's good to let the stupid people try to make up excuses, they just make it worse for themselves.
Emails can be spoofed, sure enough, but it can also easily be verified where the actual email was sent from by tracing the IP (mail server to sender) and then asking the ISP who the individual was behind the sender IP.
This should be an easy investigation and trial. Let's let the authorities take it from here. I'm sure Baron will keep us posted if any charges are brought which are viewable by the public.

The list of vBulletin vulnerabilities is uncountably infinite.
Arguably more so if the software hasn't been kept up to date. You could also make the opposite argument and I believe the owner has done just that.
It is suprising though that the Javascript exploit worked and hadn't been detected up to now.
+1 baron can you please confirm embedded js execution has been disabled. This function was universally removed from almost all public forums many years back when online message boards first appeared due to the infinite ways it can be exploited.
as for this scumbag I hope he gets what he deserves and worse, there is nothing more disgusting than exploiting/abusing children who cannot defend themselves.
