I got a disgusting paedophile image on my pm today. I cannot even say who it was from as I was so horrifed that i deleted it. I hope the picture was just a photoshop manipulation or else that was totally criminal.

I was thinking the same thing. He thinks he's untouchable because he is in Australia. The FBI has offices in Australia. They work closely with the Australian Federal Police. It might even be easier to prosecute under Australian law.

So we went back and looked just to see if his IP was very consistent at the beginning stage or if it shuffled all around to something different every time he posted. Sure enough, it was the same IP, day in and day out.

So we did a Geo IP lookup and this is what we found:

So as you can see in that link, the IP originates from Canada.

What's great about this is that Cold confirmed himself in this post that he is Canadian.

Now ask the ISP of that IP if it was using that same IP range on the date you detected it in hist post. If not, you need to ask them who was the previous ISP using that IP range at the date of the post. They should usually have that kind of information.

The ISP in current ownership of that IP range is Telus from Canada, so ask them.

According to the whois they registered for that IP range in August 2006.
They also provide an email for abuse, obviously: abuse at telus.com

If you tell them that he is highly suspect for distributing child pornography and that they should check him, they can legally. They will only look at if he is using any proxies. If he is and was in the last few days, they can notify the authorities for suspicious activity. Then it will be easy for the FBI and/or Canada to get a warrant. But the main thing is, the ISP can legally check if he is using proxies in the last few days, and that's a big step.

I will let the FBI handle that because in the past when I've inquired to ISPs, they've told me that they only talk to law enforcement about matters like this.

Ok but I've heard different stories too. Sometimes bugging them about it for details will speed things up, and they will report more findings to the authorities sooner rather than later. Similar things have happened on other forums, I know a few admins.

I'm also from Vancouver, Canada using Telus.

There is a lot of internet cafes including Starbucks that provide free internet access, the Vancouver Library has lots of computers for free access to the web, my guess around 100 computers plus the free wireless for laptops.
