So I was doing a google search for this company because a friend and I are thinking about dabbling in stocks and wanted to get some education before we just dumped our trillions of dollars into what we think are good investments. And when I say dabble, I mean eventually make a career out of it (long term, of course). And when I say trillions, I mean nowhere near that. We literally have only the retail broker accounts that we have made a small amount of money with.
I read through this entire thread - Lord knows I should have taken an Adderal beforehand because it's a bit lengthy.
Despite the generally poor shadow that has been cast upon them, I am going to go ahead and go to a free seminar here in Dallas on the 4th. I won't bother posting even more dribble about how it goes, but I honestly don't know anything outside of watching Sirius stock go up and down by a penny per day so I figure any information is good (or bad) information and worth having.
My real reason for posting is that I see many of you saying "find the same information on the internet" or "find a mentor" as if it is something that anyone can easily do.
I am here to tell you that after weeks of searching for trading knowledge online, that it is nearly impossible to find anything that is truly educational and that you can feel confident about after reading it. Most - if not all - of what you find is this sort of discussion that seems to contain nothing but people contradicting each other (I am sure that the vast majority of these boards don't do that, but this is the only thread I came across in my searches and it took me two hours to run through) or "GIVE US YOUR MONEY AND LEARN HOW TO BE A MILLIONAIRE" sites.
I come from a semi poor family and I don't have anything near a person that I could consider a mentor.
So my question is this - and only this - outside of reading "Day Trading for Dummies", where would any of you point someone to find truly useful information to build an "education" on in terms of trading and investing? I know that most knowledge is going to come from experience, but there has to be something to read that has a relatively condensed "basics" to get someone started in the low end. Or or someone that is willing to share what they know that doesn't cost $65,000. Where do you find those things? Even a link to a specific post on these forums would be most helpful. My eyes hurt. (sarcasm)
I know there is no get rich quick to this, and I know that there isn't only one place that tells you everything you need to know. I am looking for something that gives you that initial push into real knowledge.
P.S. - My apologies in advance for resurfacing a thread that should have died a very very long time ago.
P.S.S. - Please pray to give me the strength to turn down forking out $6,000 for something that I can find "anywhere" on the internet.
