What if the U.S. government decided guns was too much of a threat and started stopping random people in the street and searching them for illegal weapons and harassing valid permit holders who had guns until they could determine the gun was bought legally. Detaining them in the street until some proof was provided.

You guys would shit your pants running out to protest government abuse.

Here it is ok because it is a group of U.S. citizens you could care less about.
