War Optimism

Quote from links:

Our military is made up largely of minorities and the poor who can't find other jobs. Wake up guys, ...

This is not true of the current forces in Iraq.

We live in a Headline News society, impatient, fickle, demanding, and quite unrealistic.

Yes, we do. We sure do. Yep. What an astute observer of society you are.

We are hearing reports of Americans killed, and most people weren't prepared for that.
Who? You must be referring to yourself. I guess all those cautionary notes from just about everywhere prior to the war went in one ear and out the other.

There will be loss of lives, American lives in this process.
Yes there will be. Yep. What a keen observation. War causes loss of life. Wow. Who would have thought?

However, we will be victorious no matter how long it takes.
What? Are you running for office? Sorry but W, Powell, McCaine, and Franks beat you to that one already.

What is truly mind blowing, is that if the war doesn't go well, and the economy continues to struggle, we could see a brand new administration in Washington in 2004, who has a completely different take on terrorism and Iraq. I could see a new administration completely abandon Iraq and the efforts to date.

What a waste if we don't follow through on what we have started to fulfillment of the goal.

Foreign policy should be consistent throughout more than just a change of leadership in the Oval Office.
My God that IS mind blowing! Jeez, you mean when administrations change, that often leads to changes in POLICY?!? Golly Jeepers, Optional!

Wow, I'm so glad we have Blowhardus Immenus, er, I mean, Optional777 to lead us through this morass. I think we can all sleep better at night knowing he is here to guide us ordinary folk through the darkness and make sure we understand it all. (applause)

by your definition of "war monger" every U.S. troop over there is a "war monger" because they are all volunteers, and morale is high, and they are having the opportunity of their careers. By the definition of any reasonable person you are an ungratefull cowardly idiot. But keep talking, you are fuel for the fire.

Modo is right. The scary part of this, is that it's common sense and iceman just doesn't see it. Our troops are the most advanced troops in the world and yes this is the oppotunity of there career. They train hard for so long that they anticipate going into battle. Yes there are some that are not as willing to go, but that is gone once they hit the battle field and there isntincts kick in.

All this aside, lets stop debating over all of this ands stand by our country regardless of the opinions we hold. Our goverment knows what they are doing and they would not be there if this did not need to be done.

Quote from ZBEAR:

War making is distinguished from all other enterprises by one irrevocable reality:
the stakes are higher.
War can destroy everything achieved through other human endeavors.
It can take away health, wealth, dignity, and life.
It can assassinate civilization.

Those who have never fought in war,
have no sense of what war is.
The Warrior is the provider of the most precious commodity, security.
He delivers us from the most terrifying evil, the enemy.
Little wonder that free men give their government the authority to force their sons to fight.
To be a warrior means to serve your fellow man.

It hasn't gone as smoothly as I first thought. The longer this thing takes, the hotter it'll get in Iraq, possibly slowing down coalition forces (fighting in chemical suits in 100 degree heat?).

My biggest concern is seeing a lack of Iraqi civilian celebration. Where are the women and children dancing in the streets at the site of American troops? It seems to be a minority as compared to a majority.

I wonder why the Iraqi's didn't blow up the bridges over the Euphrates. I guess they're too busy using guerilla tactics.

Let's pray for our troops and for our POW's.

Once bitten twice shy.

The Shi'ites rose up after Desert Storm after believing Bush Sr. would back them with US forces if they rebelled. Well, he didn't, and thousands of them were executed.

Can't blame 'em at all for being skeptical.

Its happening but the majority of the population is in the major cities which we haven't captured yet. If they were out celebrating they would be killed instantly.

The MAJORITY of the Iraqi population are Shiite's and they have been brutally oppressed by the Sunni's which make up the Bath Party that rules Iraq with Sadam at the head. When the coalition forces pulled out in 91 they left the shiites who celebrated to be wholesale slaughtered like cattle, and they remember that. They are being more carefull this time. I would do the same in their shoes.

Absolutely... and look at the most recent example of leaving a little to early... Afghanistan. We're already letting that one get away from us. Not to mention that the Kurds are still a little skeptical after the same thing happened to them in 91. Seems like they all have a reason to be cautiously optimistic.
