And that's a great analogy. But if the CDC/WHO and various country's health agencies had come out and said things like "Speed doesn't kill, drive as fast as you want. There is no evidence that speed kills people...etc" then there'd be a whole lot of people going "huh...speed doesn't kill?"
I'm being intentionally absurd with your example, but its the same parallel.
