Wall Street HyperQuants Working to Control Trading through Artificial Intelligence

Quote from biggerfish:

At Collective Intellect, Vice President Darren Kelly, a former BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc. stock analyst, says tomorrow's quants will rely on AI to spot patterns that no one has imagined in the free- flowing type of information that can be found in e-mails, on Web pages and in voice recordings. After all, such unstructured information accounts for about 80 percent of all the info out there.

How can collecting all this info off the web be helpful??

Quote from maxpi:

Let's say we on ET are quants. We are working in relative obscurity and we discover the HG. Do we dutifully disclose it at the next departmental meeting or do we tuck it away for future personal use and quietly get an IB account on the side and start learning an auototrading front end?

They will make you sign some paperwork when you get the job, to ensure any "discoveries" you make remain their property, not much different from any other large corporation
