Governor calls for constitutional convention 01:13

Story highlights

  • Conservatives want a federal balanced budget amendment added to the Constitution
  • How hard would that be?
Washington (CNN)The increasing dominance of Republicans inside statehouses across the nation has spurred talk that a constitutional convention -- the very meeting that crafted the US Constitution -- could be more than just a Hail Mary thrown to conservatives.

Conservative groups and Republican lawmakers have been planning for the possibility for years, although it picked up steam three years ago after a group of state lawmakers met at George Washington's Mount Vernon estate, just outside Washington.
The requirement that 34 state legislatures approve of any convention has long seemed too high a hurdle. But a series of surprise wins for Republicans in statehouses across the country on Election Night -- including taking control of both legislative chambers in 32 states -- has put the possibility within reach.

What is a constitutional convention?

We've already had one constitutional convention -- literally The Constitutional Convention, in 1787, which gave us the Constitution -- and there hasn't been one since...

I would be ok with California seceding, provided they paid for the wall we would have to build.[/QUOTE]

The dems aren't able to get votes in the flyover states so they want to eliminate the electoral college so that the coastal states and Chicago will control everything. Another way to go would be to campaign in the flyover states and to care about them but it is not their way.

California should not be allowed to secede. They should be forced to comply with American law or placed under martial law. Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer, and Maxine Waters should be sent to Gitmo and waterboarded. Half of their massive number of electoral votes should be taken from them and allotted to smaller states where people actually work for a living and are not actively trying to become a northern part of Mexico.

Before I agree to California seceding, I am going to want some guarantees that their entertainment industry celebs go with them.

Until recently, I think Sean Penn, Michael Big-Mac Moore, and Oliver Stone were planning to move to the Workers Paradise in Venezuela. Not sure how that plan is looking this week.
