The take away: Fish oil and Elderberry MIGHT help to prevent it, but NOT to take it when someone actually has it.
 
This was why H1N1 was worse for people in their prime with stronger immune systems I recall but this is the first I hear of it being a significant factor (of course there is always a cytokine release) for covid-19 but of course, individuals vary.

I have a small stock of chloroquine phosphate 250 mg tablets for older relatives with zinc and immunosuppression meds. A couple in my wife's family are very high risk though younger due to a genetic condition where they are sensitive to organic pollutants like gasoline fumes, avian proteins and the lung thickens so have very reduced lung capacity.

Trying to figure out if the chloroquinine can be used as a prophylactic measure or just the full whack 500mg a day for ten days I have read is being used. As this happens to be the typical package size of 20 pills it is not fine tuned dosage.

Results
Hydroxychloroquine (EC50=0.72 μM) was found to be more potent than chloroquine (EC50=5.47 μM) in vitro. Based on PBPK models results, a loading dose of 400 mg twice daily of hydroxychloroquine sulfate given orally, followed by a maintenance dose of 200 mg given twice daily for 4 days is recommended for SARS-CoV-2 infection, as it reached three times the potency of chloroquine phosphate when given 500 mg twice daily 5 days in advance.

I found this just the morning, the snag here is these are vitro not vivo results but this is encouraging as the metabolite HCQ is less toxic so.. should be good. I've taken a lot of normal CQ over the years in Africa (still got falciparum malaria once) and it is not too bad but for a particularly fragile person heavy on the liver I'm sure. I'll certainly discuss this with the doc at the hospice, this is good info.

A renowned research professor in France has reported successful results from a new treatment for Covid-19, with early tests suggesting it can stop the virus from being contagious in just six days.



Professor Didier Raoult from infection hospital l'Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), published a video explaining the trials on Monday March 16.

Professor Raoult is an infectious diseases specialist and head of the IHU Méditerranée Infection, who has been tasked by - and consulted by - the French government to research possible treatments of Covid-19.

He said that the first Covid-19 patients he had treated with the drug chloroquine had seen a rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious.

Chloroquine - which is normally used mainly to prevent and treat malaria - was administered via the named drug, Plaquenil.

The treatment was offered to 24 patients, who were among the first to become infected in the south east of France, and who had voluntarily admitted themselves to hospital for the process.

Abstract
The insert currently supplied with hydroxychloroquine states that patients should have an initial ophthalmological assessment and then regular assessments every 3 months. The rheumatologist should expect a report from the ophthalmologist, which includes a corneal assessment of tissue dose, a reference to visual field defects if present on the Amsler grid, and a comment concerning the status of the patient's color vision. Daily dose is more important than duration of dose, regarding maculopathy. The visual prognosis of retinopathy is excellent if the diagnosis is made at an early stage of the disease. This report suggests that ophthalmological review need only occur initially and on a yearly basis if the daily dose of hydroxychloroquine is less than 6.5 mg/kg/d and the duration of therapy is less than 9 years.
