Virus on my laptop

Quick update - the malwarebytes forum has info on this virus, but they are reccomending combo fix, (apparently, they are serious techies over there), so this must be a kind of new problem or one that simply evades virus detection software. It looks like google hijacks have been around for a while, but I can't see where anybody has developed anti-virus software for it. Right now I'm restoring my Toshiba laptop to out-of-the box settings, I hope this will get rid of it.

Any tips on search engine hijacks are appreciated!
 
I bought a system disc and I just reinstall windows periodically or if I suspect something. I don't quite trust Ghost or restore points, you can't tell me that virus writers haven't figured out ways to fool that. If I have learned anything in my years with computers it's that the security industrys' stuff is way overrated and the skills of virus writers are way underestimated.
 
I found a great way to never get viruses on my computer. Its simple. Just don't visit porn sites or sites that let you download "free" movies, music, ect. You will be surprised how your computer stays working perfect from the day you bought it 4 or 5 years from now. :P

I did find Kaspersky while searching, but he's the one that requires you use the hi-tech stuff with supervision. He is at the top of google searches.

Do you reformat the disk before re-installing or just install over?
My 'puter has been running kinda crapy for a while now and some of it was due to IE settings, but I suspect I could benefit from a re-install of windows.

Yep! Also, for most search engines you can find a product that checks sites for safety. It may come with your antivirus, or a seperate add in, but gives a general idea of site safety. Again not the holy grail, but added safety. Another good idea, don't have kids. I have spent many hours researching and recovering from my kids searches, and one obvious porn hunt. :D Hmm, must take after Dad.
Since I trade I have 1 computer I use only for trading. I have never done a search, or gone to any website beyond the downloads for the platform. My 2nd trading computer I do use for credit card, and banking, but no shopping or searching.
Hey I am paranoid, so maybe I go overboard.
 
Firefox with NoScript prevents almost everything on it's own. Put a good AV behind it like ESOD (what I have) and you're golden.
