Virtual FX position?

Hi,

Likely a complete noob question but what is a virtual FX position? I currently use IB to buy stock on margin and found a AUD.USD position (FX portfolio was hidden). Is it a real profit/loss that doesn't go against my margin/incur interest?

I've searched around but can't seem to get a simple answer.
