Virginia Losing Republican Grip of Old With New Voters

Quote from piezoe:

Do you ever stop to think how very ironic it is that Caucasians of prior generations are responsible for the situation you now want to move away from? Though you nor I are directly responsible, we Caucasians have made our bed but don't want to lie in it. This may all just be Karma.

I can't believe how racist or bigoted some of you Americans still are. Is it any wonder that the Deep South where immoral laws like segregation lasted well past their past due date are now home to high poverty rates and really bad education standards ?

In my country, almost NOBODY discusses topics in terms of what Caucasians do. The phrase just sounds stupid to me. Get with it, the world is multicultural and there are now whole groups of people who don't fit ANY of those "categories" you like to label.

I see some of you Americans discussing politics like its a Republican/Democratic thing, but no, its just factual that there are numerous states that forever seem to be lower educated, have poor race relations, and poverty rates remain fairly high. And for whatever reason, they are also really big on arming citizens with high powered weapons and voting for the Republican party. Whether the Republicans cater to this demographic or not I have no idea, I try not to follow US politics too close I think the two party system doesn't work.

But regardless of this topic, the racial stuff needs to improve immensely in the States, and I believe higher education standards are a part of it.

Do you believe that Blacks with lower test scores should be moved ahead of Whites trying to get into the same University?

What made you think anyone in "my country" is interested in how you think we should do things here?

Auto dealers drive May retail sales up past expectations
By Tiffany Hsu,

"Retail sales improved in May as thawing temperatures and more cheerful shoppers caused a boost at car dealerships and home improvement stores, according to government figures.

"Last month, the gauge rose 0.6% from April to $421.1 billion in sales -- a 4.3% increase from the same period a year earlier, the Commerce Department said.

"Wall Street had expected a 0.4% month-to-month swell. In April, sales had increased 0.1% from March and 3.7% from the prior year.

"The data, which the government adjusted for seasonal and holiday variations, showed a 1.8% month-to-month surge in auto sales. It was the largest upswing since November.

"Economists said promising employment numbers along with stock market strength and rising home prices may have encouraged more consumer confidence in May.

"Consumers in the grip of spring fever also rushed out to stores offering building materials and garden equipment and supplies, pushing sales up 0.9%. Online sales got a 0.7% boost."

People are buying cars on wild credit schemes, but no where near the inventory levels of all time highs. That doesn't mean the channel isn't stuffed. They're doing the same thing in Europe despite abysmal retail sales.
