Viewpoint: The Decline of Unions Is Your Problem Too

low wages open up the flood gates for immigrants willing to work for them. $7.25 is a lot of money for most people in the world. But $7.25 is too much for many low margin manufacturers.
I fully agree with and understand your point. But what is reality telling us? It is telling us there is something fundamentally wrong with the business model of that kind of 'low margin manufacturing'.

yes, that is my new thing. I watch Fox tv all the time and they are always running the Henry Repeating Rifle ad. Now I could make that same rifle in Viet Nam and sell if for half the price. But their customers will pay the full fair American wage price (I assume. I have no idea what they pay their American workers. It's probably less than a democrat thinks they deserve.)

Well, that wage is important. International trade is the wave of the future. It's great! But we have to figure out a way for prices to reflect parity between wages. I think this can be done, approximately, but it wont be easy.

trade war baby, that's the only and most efficient way. Won't cost the taxpayer a dime, but everything will be a dollar more expensive, but everybody is working and we are all happy except the cars they are making in Detroit sure are a piece of shit compared to my liberal neighbors Honda.
Didn't they already try something like this in the Soviet Union? Wish I still had my old concrete 1984 Comrade Master. It very rarely ever ran, but it never rusted out on me.

otherwise, I was watching cspan this morning and a black female caller from California called in and talked about her problem of being unemployed, but mostly all the kids standing on the corner, and lack of practical education. In her mind, most of school is to weed out the weak and find the few who are fit for corporate culture. And she observed that many never were nor ever will be fit for that kind of life. And she saw a need to teach kids how to be entrepeneaurs and start their own business which utilized their true skills. And also the need for just plain old people who like to do simple old fashioned work a job that pays a living wage.

When I started own business I realized how lacking my education really was. Had I not taken a tax class in law school, I would not have even come across the concept of above the line vs below the line. ( I did not go to b school and did not take accounting... I was an econ major).

I am pretty sure this lack of practical education in running a business is designed to keep liberals ignorant when it comes to taxes and govt policies.

They think that if you mandate a wage increase or increase taxes - businesses can just pass them along to customers and nothing contracts. or you should look to international wage parity (a communist idea if I ever heard of one) instead of looking to what the founders knew... tariffs instead of income taxes to keep people working. Morons in govt allow the cronies to ship jobs and ip overseas as even Kaisch says lets have free trade (but this time) we stop other countries from rigging their home markets and putting up barriers to trade.

you may be right. I need to rethink things. Apparently what makes the most money doesn't always create the most happiness. I just assumed everybody was like me and would rather work with their head. It never occured to me that some people just like to work with their hands, but they also want to work with their head to get ahead.

Or to put it another way, why should I manufacture in America when I can manufacture in China for a fraction of the cost? Answer:Because Americans like making things. That's what makes them happy. And ever since the Declaration of Independence we have been committed to the pursuit of happiness.

Part of the reason China has lower cost is because we have allowed them to rig the currency markets and our FED and our Bankers allowed them to bury their excess cash in 2nd mortgages... when that market blew up and revealed the value of those second mortgages to be to close to zero our fed switched that 1.5 trillion dollars over to treasuries. Not only was that a theft of 1.5 trillion from our tax payers... it also allowed these market distortions to contineu.

If China were not hamstrung by our traitor politicians and our bankers their costs might not be nearly as competitive.

What we really need is politician traitors to the economic well being of their country parity.

In short since we don't live in a free trade world. We have to bring back our industry and our jobs through smart policies which could include tariffs instead of income tax.

oh, that's easy, just go to one world currency. I vote for the dollar. No free lunch, you can't tarrif your way to prosperity any more than you can raise min wage, tax or spend your way there.
What I'm talking about is a different way of looking at success. And for a society to be successful, plain old manufacturing appears to be necessary for no other reason than that is what people like to do, and they like living in manufacturing communities. And we have taken that from our citizens and given it away to others because we didn't understand that manufacturing can be as theraputic to the soul as the community church or family.

I mistook manufacturing for low skill work which no man would ever want his children to pursue. Now I'm starting to see it can be very high skilled work for the right people who enjoy it.

So, how do we turn the iphone from a commodity produced by slave labor in China into an American Product? Maybe it's already run it's course. But we could do better next time.

I agree with you about manufacturing.
I could not disagree with you more about a world currency.
One world currency electronically printed by private central bankers?
equals worldwide loss of liberty, freedom and economic advancement outside of the party.
