Very nice of Obama to decide we are not a Judeo Christian Nation

Quote from stu:

....lol,

but

Vehn is correct . If we weren't always a secular nation then we would have been a theocratic one. We were never a theocracy. That would be just nonsense and too ridiculous to argue.

When some of those preambles were being written, soon after, Babtists were running to Government asking for the partition of State and religion. Christians were falling out with Christians because some sects of Christianity wanted theocratic rule over others.

Those preambles are rightly over ruled by the Constitution.

This nation may indeed (rather childishly) take a nod toward God, but God is not part of the constitution for government nor should it quite rightly ever be. For very good reasons.
Unless some Christians want a government base like Iran’s that is.

Stu, you are saying the seperation of church and state was asked for from religious people because the religions fight with each other over their different beliefs? So they make sure one religion does not have more power over the other religion?

Quote from Lucrum:

I don't know, with all those references to God? It sure sounds like, at one time at least, the "Almighty God" was considered sacred by the (states) framers to me.

secular
sec⋅u⋅lar
 –adjective
1. of or pertaining to worldly things or to things that are not regarded as religious, spiritual, or sacred; temporal: secular interests.
Tell you what. If your country ever decides to go theocratic, you'll be my ayatollah of choice.

Personally I don't think the US is or ever was a theocracy.

theocracy

1 : government of a state by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided 2 : a state governed by a theocracy

And you may want to find another ayatollah.
I don't worship in any way, and I drink, curse, covet and lust too much.

If there is such a place as hell, that's where you'll find me someday.

" The separation of church and state is a legal and political principle derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." The phrase "separation of church and state" is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court. "

All this confusion is that the role of religion in US politics is very interpretive.

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

A Christian nation?

A Christian nation that:

1. Has a divorce rate of 50%...
2. Has 75% of married couples having affairs...
3. Has more people watching the Super Bowl than going to Church...
4. Invaded another country and overthrew their government based on lies...
5. Does not adequately care for the poor...
6. Beats plowshares into weapons...
7. Was founded denying rights to women and minority groups...
8. Is filled with people who lie, cheat, steal...
9. Is the most materialistic nation on earth...
10. Does not remember the Sabbath nor keep it Holy...
11. Routinely takes God's name in vain...
12. Allows abortion...
13. Allows states to legalize gay marriage...
14. Allows the state to execute people...

A very incomplete list of a so called "Christian" nation...

+1 Great post

Don't forget to credit our evangelical leaders. Here is Ted Haggard:

Mr. Haggard was former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was THE LEADER of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EVANGELICALS.

Mr. Haggard also had a gay relationship with a 20+ year old man who he did meth with... this relationship lasted for several years.

Hypocrites, hypocrites, hypocrites.
