Very Disturbing

I had absolutely no clue about that. Would you have a set of links and videos about this nefarious phenomenon?
No wonder, more and more people prefer the "alternative" natural path of healing, than checking with a doctor.

Here are just a few. As the video clearly shows the terrible things that these drugs can do to people. To top it off, we actually have people who get pleasure from seeing others in such bad shape.

This is terrible.
Imagine the unsuspecting public, just trusting the doctor for some pains, and taking the medication religiously. The consequences being the patient body now becoming a well prepared receptacle for heroin addiction.
The person will find it even more difficult to get into rehab+dhamma retreat centers, as the underlying physical pain will be there whenever the use of opioid is stopped.
I am now understanding all these people who do not trust medecines and prefer to use "alternative" natural methods.
Self-care is really about being careful about what one lets in their own body!

Seriously? You didn't know that most these people end up on heroin from first being prescribed pills that are FDA approved. Its a huge problem.

It used to be that you would hear of some celebrity dying from an OD of some powerful street drug. Now they are more likely to die from something prescribed by a doctor.

Despite the anti-pharma crowd trying to claim that heroin addicts all get their start on Oxy or other pharma drugs - this is simply not true. The large majority of heroin addicts in the U.S. (and world-wide) did not start with "FDA approved" pills. The availability of pharma pills is not the cause of the "heroin epidemic" - the "heroin epidemic" has been in place for decades and now is getting more media coverage. The number of heroin addicts per 100,000 people has not increased over the decades - it has increased from 2002 until 2016 as addicts of other drugs switched to heroin as heroin became more readily available world-wide.

The huge percentage of people who use Oxy and other pain medicine after surgery do not get addicted or have problems with the medication. Only a small number of people abuse prescription drugs and the responsibility for their behavior rests strictly on these abusers - no one except for them is responsible for their lack of self-control. In fact the 12 step programs (which are the most successful for treatment) focus on people taking personal responsibility for their behavior.

Cancer is a disease. Influenza is a disease. Making dumb lifestyle CHOICES isn't. I have no sympathy for weak-minded imbeciles who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.

Disease: a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury. A particular quality, habit, or disposition regarded as adversely affecting a person or group of people.

We've been accustomed to think of only as illness/infections as "disease" but technically harmful bad habits are a disease. I don't like it anymore than you do as I don't feel its fair to people with diseases like cancer to be categorized into the same place as people who use heroin.

Do you have links with the historical numbers of heroin addicts since 2000? as well as other drugs addictions ? From what type of drugs did people mostly switch from into heroin?

What would be good would be to have the historical data about how people get into heroin addiction.
I always thought that people get into addiction because of some trauma (so psychology/spirituality) they have not dealt with. And we all know it is not easy for people to treat their trauma.

Its called control pal. People who are popping pills are not going to cause those in power any problems. Its a simple way to keep people docile and under control. The government has a vested interest in ruling over a docile public.

It gets even worst than that. Now they are pushing these drugs are called 'smart drugs' because they are supposed to make you smarter. I think they ought to be called 'dumb drugs' because they don't make you smarter, they made dumber. Its not even close.

No matter what ailment you have, whether you are depressed, or too hyper, or have social anxiety, or your back hurts, WE HAVE A PILL FOR YOU.

Addiction is a form of mental illness. It's no more a disease than schizophrenia is a disease. It's called a disease because of the stigma attached to being mentally ill. It needs to be treated as a mental illness rather than a disease and those of us who see it this way make progress for ourselves, and the others we help find the road to recovery.

Since the mapping of the brain, scientists have discovered that some mental states ( including addiction, depression, anxiety, etc) are related to particular areas of the brain, as well as some body hormone/chemical imbalance in the body.
This is why addiction, etc are being more and more considered like a disease.

In the same vein you could say having a cold is a disease whom causes can be the cold, you could say addiction-schizophrenia-depression-social anxiety- psychopath- etc are diseases whom causes can be specific types of trauma.
