Vertical Collar

Quote from JJacksET4:

I have done many bull call spreads, and have never considered them to be "collars". A Bull call spread involves buying a call and selling a higher strike call - i.e. with a stock at $49, you might buy the 50 call and sell the 60 call. It has absolutely nothing to do with puts!
Ummmm, equivalent strategies constructed with different components? Check it out :)

Rhetoric? The first page of any option book's chapter on spreads defines vertical, horizontal and diagonal.

Vertical is redundant when takling about a collar. It is assumed that all components are of the same expiration unless it is stated otherwise.

It might be more productive if you learned option terminology and strategies before ranting about those who have already done so.

"Vertical is redundant when talking about a collar" would have been much more helpful than rhetoric like "Google option + collar", and viewed by most as being closer aligned to the spirit and intent of this forum.

Members of the forum are here to ask others who are more experienced and more knowledgeable for their assistance in order to save time and frustration and to provide details regarding nuances about topics that may not be so obvious in material found in other places.

Otherwise, that is the point in having ET?

Your initial post asked about the construction of a vertical collar as an inexpensive way to protect a long equity position from an overnight gap down. It also indicated that you were not having much success with your searches.

I gave you the words OPTION+COLLAR to Google. Yeh, there were 40 million hits but on the 1st page, there were 10 links that explained what a collar is. Now tell me, why should anyone here spend a chunk of time writing a detailed explanation when all you had to do was read a few links?

Instead of doing that, you called the CBOE Institute to find someone who could tell you what the word "vertical" means? Hello?? 4 pages about the meaning of vertical and your dissatisfaction with the responses you received? Stop being a little pissant and make some effort to learn about option basics.

No one specifically asked you to respond. You made the choice to formulate your rhetorical answer and post it in response to your ego in the same manner you chose to resort to the unprofessional behavior of name calling.

Hey, Spindr0 was nice enough to give you two very good answers. He told you what to Google to find out what a collar was, and then he explained that using the word vertical in conjunction with collar is superfluous. You can just call it a collar. The least you could do would be to thank him for his time. Now go and do some reading on collars.

Spindr0, Thank you for the time and effort you put into assisting me in my quest to understand the meaning and construction of a "vertical collar".

I hope someday I am able to assist you in the same manner.

I'm off to do some serious reading about collars.

iplay... are you going to argue with the market too! should bode well for losing a lot of capital. try humility bro, it works best in the markets and trading. If you don't have the experience or smarts, or energy to do your own work, your own studying like I and many others did over many years... then don't b_tch when someone experienced spends their time trying to help you!

be grateful/thankful. no one 'owes' you squat.

no offense

Interesting choice of words. I fail to see an implication of indebtedness.

No offense taken.
