I think to remember that I could do that with my funds in the USD based account as well. But it's been a while as I changed to bmo.

my takeaway, if we are in the twilight of the USD as reserve currency, something needs to take it's place. of course, gradually, step by step. a return to gold-backed currencies à la Russia? the Yuan? barrels of oil? Or what about a currency that's not government-backed? are we heading toward a situation that necessitates such a currency? and if so, what could it be? what properties should it have? does it already exist?

I think the world died a little bit when "birthing person" was introduced.

This is why we need Bitcoin. There needs to be a standard that we all agree on. Nature produces male and females, and yet some people think nature is just a thought abstraction that can be changed at will.

Speaking for the US, Digital Dollars are definitely on the way. It won't be BTC. And it won't won't be a good thing either.

Look up the ECASH Act.
 
There will be improvements in digital payments. But they will be centralized and the monetary power stays with each central bank. That is the most likely outcome with 99 percent probability.
