AFAIK 43.7% is the highest bracket and that starts at about 113k/ year. Base tax starts after about an 8k deduction, and starts at about 22%.

Vancouver is expensive to me because i live on the island, so i cant really compare that end for you, but i know people that rent and they pay around 800-1100 for a 1 bedroom apt, and 1300 for a 2 bedroom in decent areas. Houses are nuts, and the new apartment buildings are just so small sq ft wise compared to my oldschool building in victoria.

I was thinking more along the lines of Whistler, ... prolly too expensive, and confiscatory taxes ....

If I can make this work, I'll probably just go down to the cayman islands (or some other tax-haven), make my dinero, and move somewhere I want to be..

I wouldn't have thought avoiding taxes would be my primary goal, but I've come to conclusion that my government can't be trusted with my money anymore...

Well 43.7% is on the portion above 113k. Its a banded system. first 8k free, 8-20k or something is around 22%, and then goes up from there. 113k is not taxed at the full rate...
 
I'm in Whistler right now temporarily. It's a great place to live assuming you like doing outdoor stuff. North Vancouver is also a good place to live.

In Canada we have a Taxable Capital Gain of 50%. In your example $56,500 is tax free, and $56,500 would be considered taxable income.
 
thanks for the information. Sorry about my choice of words.
I reread my post, and was out of line in describing your tax system as "sickening".. not a word I normally use. (I recently completed my own US tax return, and have grown increasingly irritated about how that money is used and misused......)

In any event, I think I'll go incorporate off-shore. That is, if my system works out as well as it might.
 
Anyone want to try for another trader lunch hook-up this month? With the two holidays coming up (Canadian & US), the big question is if anyone will still be in the city on Friday afternoon :)
