How to Achieve "Immortality"
by PEG LEG JOE
The quest for immortality has captivated the imagination of mankind since the very beginning of our existence. The ancient Egyptians mummified their bodies in preparation for the next life. Knights sought the Holy Grail and Ponce de Leon sought The Fountain of Youth for the promise of everlasting life. Today, some even have their bodies cryogenically frozen immediately after death in the hope that someday in the future their corpses can be resuscitated.
But Peg Leg Joe has another plan for achieving "immortality."
Premise: Every moment is eternal; a freeze-frame of life.
Action Plan: Turn the mind inward, as like a microscope looking upon inner space. EXPERIENCE each and every moment for what it really is...a freeze-frame of life. Enter into this moment and feel its every nuance. Extend your consciousness into the deepest realms of this moment and maximize it entirely.
Have you ever had a traumatic experience where you felt that time had slowed down? For example, have you ever had to give a speech in front of hundreds of people and you were nervous out of your mind, and maybe you only talked for 5 minutes, but it felt like several hours? Or perhaps you have had a close shave with death, say, in a near-car crash. In the moments you were steering your car to safety, every thing seemed to happen in slow motion.
Now Consider This: What if you could train your mind, little by little, day by day, to live in the moment; to feel the moment; to experience each moment in its entirety? It is my belief that if you can do this, you can slow the experiential passing of timeâ¦and perhaps even bring it to a complete halt at times.
If this can be done, you can begin to approach âimmortalityâ by shaping time around your own experience, and not by letting your experience be shaped by time. Even if you can only reach this state of mind a few times a day, you could effectively increase your perceived lifespan immensely.
And as someone once told me:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.
PEACE
