Using System Restore to eliminate a virus - WinXP

XP Restore records restore points periodically and upon certain events.. like installing a driver... but if you don't "go back" after a certain number of days, Restore presumes "all is OK", and doesn't retain your older restore points.
Of all the backup solutions, System Restore is the weakest for a number of reasons. Better than nothing, but shouldn't be relied upon for a trading rig.
You can write false id/passwords in the word file then choose the right combination from the 10 or so you have in the file.

If you have a keylogger concern which you cannot eliminate, you should backup important files and reinstall OS immediately.

Get Acronis True Image... you'll sleep lots better. Make system images to external hard drive.... similar principle as System Restore, but a hundred times safer and more reliable.

Not sure how easy this re-install is gonna be, but in any case I will need that external HD, so I'm off to Microcenter to pick that up now.

A "fresh install from scratch" is always a royal pain. It's worth it to have backups and restoration images to keep the fresh install act to a minimum.
