How's this for an idea @johnarb

Musk just includes some GPUs in a side circuit in his cars that do nothing by try to solve the hashes on the blockchain or however those algo try to work out answers to next BTC block. After all, his cars are all wireless internet so they would always be connected to the blockchain while they are being driven.

He could even market it as being "green" by saying the algos would run only when regenerative braking is happening, so he is converting lost heat into crypto.

Granted, the owners of the Teslas might only get a few satohis per year or whatever, but it's free money! It could get applied to their car loan, or charging cost, or something!

Will reduce range if regenerative braking energy that is currently being sent back to battery is diverted elsewhere.

But those old tesla's that had access to free charging for life...

Besides, that is not THE answer, that was just a marketing answer. It can be done with full driving mode, not just during braking.

I am thinking of this along the lines of the old SETI@Home project from decades ago, where when your PC went into screensaver mode, the SETI program on your PC would process the SETI signal data to search for candidate signals. It was a "Distributed Processing Network" or some shit like that.

Similar to what blockchain is now.

I don't think it's a good idea

Bitcoin mining uses ASIC's that generate trillions of hashes per second and produces a ton of heat. Could pose a danger to the lithium batteries

I saw an old article of someone utilizing the Tesla for GPU mining Ethereum (too lazy to search it now) in the trunk taking advantage of free lifetime supercharging. That's feasible but Tesla could cut you off if caught and soon Ethereum cannot be mined using GPU's
