USDJPY - How high?

And yes I do trade FX. I have about 5 open positions, which I'll mostly close before Christmas.

Nice ! you must be a long-term trader :)
Out of them, I guess one of them must be yen.
Since yen is a safe heaven currency and U.S economy may (or is expected to) enter a strong economic period in the coming year, U.S dollar may strength more at the interest decision next Monday.
Yep, I will not trade anymore this year after that too

Yes I'm closing out as we go along. Had a good ride with NZDJPY, over 400 pips but size too small of course. Never wise before only after. Be back mid-January.

400 pips is awesome ! Just out of curiosity, how long did you hold NZDJPY for?
Entered on 22nd November at 78.12
Took profit on 12th December at 82.88

I only got a half fill. Price took off without giving me a fill on my sub-78 order. I always split my entries into 2 or 3 tranches. Pleased with the result, unhappy I didn't get the size so this is something I need to work on obviously.

An article on negative interest rate by bloomberg

Yen fluctuations also surged with the BOJ’s policy shifts, as Kuroda adopted negative rates, disappointed hopes for follow-up action, and then overhauled his whole framework away from quantitative easing toward yield-curve targeting. Things calmed down with the November meeting, and Tuesday’s looming decision is also expected to be a yawner.

The unexpected Trump-triggered reflation rally turned frowns into smiles for stock investors, while putting pressure on bonds. Government bond prices climbed about 7 percent in the first half as the negative-rate shock reverberated, before Kuroda’s adoption of yield-curve control and the global sell-off in debt pulled them back. They’re now up about 2 percent for the year.

p.s.) After all, the negative interest rate caused Yen to appreciate...so I have to wait and observe the pre-announcement movement. The market opens with a gap...I may not trade this one.

Long USDJPY @ 109.90

UPDATE: The rate dropped down below 109.80.
THIS would have been my ideal entry level—too bad for me.
