One of the reasons for having a GPU is so that the CPU doesn't have to carry all the water for display and can be available for other things...

Sure, but the question is, are they good enough to do the job? Esp for someone who has 2 cards already, no more slots on the mobo and wants to add a 5th and 6th monitor...
