where do you get the 18" monitors? I can only find 17" or 19".
You have asked a good question.
Shopping for a monitor is more than looking at the diagonals.
Here's what I look at in monitors:
-- display area in terms of surface square inch.
-- total pixel of the panel (the more pixel, the more information you can put on the screen)
-- pixels per square inch
-- dollar per square inch
-- pixels per dollar
other worthy considerations:
-- cost of 3x19" vs 2x24"
-- space/brackets/stand requirement (an extra bracket is an extra $100+ !)
-- carbon footprint -- how much power they use?
if you look at 19" monitors:
diagonal 19"
viewing area width 14.8"
viewing area height 11.8"
sq in 174.64
pixel-h 1280
pixel-v 1024
tot pixel 1,310,720
pixel/sqin 7,505.27
multiply that by 3 (popular with Triplehead2go):
total sq in 524
total pixel 3,932,160
pixels per sq in 22,516
compared that with 24"
diagonal 24"
viewing area width 20.4"
viewing area height 12.75"
sq in 260.1
pixel-h 1920
pixel-v 1200
tot pixel 2,304,000
pixel/sqin 8,858.13
put 2 monitors side by side, you get:
total sq in 520
total pixel 4,608,000
pixels per sq in 17,716
