Simple google search brought me to this article from 2010, and its even worse now.

We keep importing poverty, so no wonder we keep getting more of it. I couldn't help but notice that the country highest on the "social justice" scale, Iceland, has the least diversity. Frankly, given the absolute importance of diversity to a successful society (all the professors and media heads tell me so) I don't know how they do it.

You can't know it's a failed idea until you define success, and/or know what poverty would look like if we're weren't trying at all, like one of those lousy banana republics, or know what it looks like in the more socialistic societies.
