US will 'not repeat' claims GCHQ wiretapped Donald Trump

The US has agreed not to repeat claims the UK's communications intelligence agency wiretapped Donald Trump during the presidential election campaign.

GCHQ rejected allegations made by White House press secretary Sean Spicer, that it spied on Mr Trump, as "nonsense".

No 10 has now been assured by Mr Spicer he would not repeat the accusation.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May said it had been made clear to US authorities the claims were "ridiculous and should have been ignored".

GCHQ also rejected the allegations as "utterly ridiculous". The unusual move by the agency to comment on the news came after Mr Spicer cited claims first made on US TV channel Fox News earlier this week.

Mr Trump said that Trump Tower in New York was under surveillance, but has provided no evidence for the claim.

The allegations of GCHQ involvement were initially made by former judge Andrew Napolitano.

Mr Spicer quoted Mr Napolitano as saying: "Three intelligence sources have informed Fox News that President Obama went outside the chain of command."

He said Mr Obama "didn't use the NSA, he didn't use the CIA, he didn't use the FBI and he didn't use the Department of Justice, he used GCHQ.

"What the heck is GCHQ? That's the initials for the British spying agency. They have 24/7 access to the NSA database."

A GCHQ spokesman said: "Recent allegations made by media commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano about GCHQ being asked to conduct 'wiretapping' against the then president-elect are nonsense.

"They are utterly ridiculous and should be ignored."

That's all you got? Everybody knows Trump heard it on the Mark Levine show and then tweeted he just found out about it. Mystery solved.

Well I for one am glad that was cleared up. A foreign spy agency denied it had spied on the US president, not that there would have been a yuuuge shitstorm or anything if they had done so. So their denials are totally credible.

I am satisfied, although saying "we won't mention it again" does not exactly sound like an apology.

It's odd to me, the way he said it. I think all these guys are blackmailed. They may have something on him... or the threat to ruin him, through negative propaganda. negative control. continue anonymous intel leaks until he's run out of town.

GCHQ saying that is like saying the NSA doesn't 'wiretap'. That Trump would apologize and mollify himself. Disturbs me.

fuk...never thought I'd see the day when the white house would rely on Fox News for information.

"We are told that it is ridiculous that Obama would wiretap Trump, and that the intelligence agencies would admit it publicly if it had happened. But as President Trump reminded everyone Friday, according to documents leaked by Edward Snowden, Obama ordered the wiretapping of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cellphone in 2010. The German government entered into an extensive investigation of these allegations but, according to the Guardian newspaper, finally gave up because they could not penetrate the secrecy of the spy agencies. As reported by The Guardian, “The federal prosecutor’s office received virtually no cooperation in its investigation from either the NSA or Germany’s equivalent, the BND.”

Yet we expect the National Security Agency or the CIA or the FBI to gladly cooperate with congressional investigators, or even more absurdly the media, and admit to carrying out a political vendetta against Trump? That is what is truly ridiculous." = from dailyinterlake.com

Let's not forget that the discredited Trump "dossier" that McCain was peddling was supposedly produced by a former British spy. He runs a private intell net now and has been used by our government previously. This is how black bag jobs are done. You outsource them to people with the skills but who provide plausible deniability. The assignment is kept on a strict need to know basis. It's possible only one or two people at the CIA knew and no one at a senior level at GHCQ.

The only way you can ever get to the truth is to torture it out of them. My advice would be to start with John Brennan. The leaks seemed to have stopped with his departure.

Trump has made a deal with the devil to let these traitors slide. Brennan should be meeting with his criminal defense lawyers and preparing for a grand jury summons. They handed Trump a gift wrapped opportunity to cut the CIA off at the knees, but he has blown it, probably because he is overly influenced by all the Obama generals he appointed.

I think you're a chapter behind in the saga.
I know, it's all happening so fast, I can't wait until Fox and Trump instruct CNN and msnbc what to talk about next. Meanwhile, I'm all for Hillary 2017. Mayor of New York. That's a good place for her. Keep you fingers crossed. That means you can say anything and get away with it. Ah, life without journalism. Set those animal spirits free. Well, that should be enough material for you to snark about for now. Just curious, based on your own personal experience do you think we are good owners?
