think - why did the trade deals come so fast with Korea, Japan, USMCA and a few in Europe, but so slow with China?
This is how China behaves.
Because China has got the good end of the deal. The US created the Chinese middle class. They don't want to let that go. However, China has evolved central banking (two different currencies, genius) which may be a huge game changer.

although my original intent of asking the question is that most Americans, and westerners for that matter, do not understand the Chinese mindset... Trump has been doing biz with China long before he became prez and he understands how China does business and therefore he anticipates the back and forth in these negotiations.
The trade deal would have been over and ready for signing like two years ago and what did the Chinese do at the last minute? They in effect rescinded what they agreed to at the last minute and they fully expected that the US will just bow down and take it in the ass like they used to do with past US Presidents? Now, that the Chinese had a rude awakening, they have taken a one step forward, two steps backwards approach trying to break US resolve. Now, President Donald Trump raises tariffs to 30% in response and all of a sudden, the Chinese are all conciliatory and even promised to buy more farm goods as a measure of goodwill? As we all know by know, that is an empty promise not kept. And now, the Chinese are asking as a condition for signing that baby step, Phase 1 of US-China trade agreement that the US remove ALL tariffs on Chinese products? Are the Chinese that stupid to think we would bend over when they have done squat so far? What we need are 50% tariffs on Chinese goods. We have to make the pain on the Chinese so great, that they sign a deal they cannot refuse. That is the only way. I will continue to urge 50% tariffs be imposed by President Donald Trump. The sooner the better.
