The only "benefit" is for corrupt American politicians to get elected. Once they get elected, they make sure BILLIONS of our taxpayer money are sent to Israel each year as military and economic aid.
The main reason we are in Iraq is because Iraq is a potential threat to Israel. No one would dare to say that in public because then you would be labelled as an anti-Semite. Who in the right mind would believe Iraq is a threat to superpower USA?
How about democracy in North Korea? They have missiles aimed at Alaska. Isn't that worth fighting for?
Yah, that's all that Rumsfeld and Cheney were thinking about, Israel (Woodward's interview with dozens and his research found that these were the men who were primarily responsible for the push to war, along with CIA Director George Tenet, who told bush that the case for Iraq having WMD (weapons of mass destruction) was a "slam dunk."
How would an outlaw nation like Iraq, were it to have WMD, be a threat to the US? Uhhhh, maybe cause they could sell to terrorists and other outlaw states (as N. Korea has done and would do).
As far as N. Korea, I have to ask, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? N. Korea already HAS the nukes (which is what we wanted to prevent in Iraq, and what we're not doing a good job thus far of preventing in Iran, mainly because we were wrong about Iraq's WMDs). Somehow, I don't think S. Korea will appreciate it if we just go attacking, especially since their CONVENTIONAL (ie non-nuke) missiles alone are numerous and powerful enough to kill a million people in Seoul before we do any significant damage in N. Korea. And there is very little doubt that Kim would unleash these if we do in fact attack. So, we are working to settle the issue through China, Japan and South Korea, along with sanctions and further potential sanctions. By the way, the population of ALL OF ALASKA is under 700,000 (and we're talking about a population spread out over the biggest state in the country).
RSGood points. In their defense, they did get Libya to roll, but considering that Libya, like Iraq, didn't have much to give, you start to wonder about "Cheney's unhealthy obsession with Iraq" [paraphr].
Putting the blame on Tenet (remember, this whole thing is being engineered by the Reagan administration...all the same people, all the same shitty suits from 1979), a CIA DIRECTOR, is meaningless. A CIA director is more powerful than GOD.
Do you really think a CIA director would ever do jail time, or be forfeited to another country for trial? C'MON! That's absurd. NO president - Democrat or Republican - would allow a CIA director to be extradited from the USA! There's too much at stake with what that man has in his head.
The last CIA director (or someone like that) who presided over a scandal of such proportions (Iran contra) mysteriously got a brain tumor a died like a day later...
Tenet is their GET OUT OF JAIL FREE card --- it sure beats going to an Internation Trubunal in the Netherlands for trial for war crimes!
honestly, I don't think Tenet did anything criminal. In fact, many of the intelligence agencies of the countries that opposed the war themselves thought that Iraq still had, at a minimum, chemical and bio weapons. The bottom line is, in my view, that Tenet did a poor job in his assessments with the intel they had, and especially in the trustworthiness of many of their sources (such as the Iraqi defectors). It also didn't help that much of the CIA budget had long ago been slashed, along with their slots for human intel agents (which had become extremely underappreciated).
Okay, because N.Korea has WMDs so we can't touch it. The CIA was also sure that Iraq has all kinds of WMDs, including nukes, but we are okay to go in. Is that sound logic to you?
If Bush wants democracy in Iraq, why not a democracy in Iran, N.Korea, Libya, Syria, or Pakistan? Sure, Iraq can sell WMDs, so can all of the above. Why don't we take them out too? Where is your love for freedom and democracy?

Israelis are now taking this wonderful American-sponsored opportunity to kill anyone they want. How can you blame them when Americans in Iraq are killing people just like the Israelis, all for a good cause?
yes, new found. few years back russia had a phenomenom of people suddenly awakening to their jewish roots dug up from 3 generations ago. all for purpose of migrating to USA or Israel.
