US healthcare is NOT a free market

Quote from Spike Trader:

lol , he was being sarcastic, or trying to at least.

No disrespect or sarcasm was intended. The US needs to take its healthcare crisis seriously, it's expensive and inefficient. Why can't US provide its citizens reasonably affordable healthcare, if Costa Rica or Canada can why can we?

"Foreigners living in Costa Rica – legal residents only – can join the CCSS and get free treatment (everything from check ups to prescription drugs to major surgeries) by paying a small monthly fee–based on income."

C'mon, if a teeny tiny Latin American country can...the USA the big bad human rights protector of the free world can't??

No disrespect to bigarrow(i think he was kidding?) but yelling "communism" doesn't help solve this grave issue only inflames it. Every free market needs regulation inc healthcare (which isn't a free mrket to begin with!)that isn't communism, it's working toward reasonable solutions to very important complex problems and needs in today's world!

Democracy and Capitalism needs regulation too otherwise it doesn't work!

Lucrum posts only 15 times a day ? I would of guessed a higher number. You're probably right on his IQ (+/-) 10 points.

I recall the Army saying something about 113 if that helps. I know that's low but doen't bother me. You work with what you're given.

Your mind was already made up...not people like you that we try to appeal to their sense of reason

You got "yours" and you don't give a crap now. I get it.

My mind wasn't made up at all. But when an article starts with horseshit, why continue to waste your time reading it?

You don't like when people have a different viewpoint than you do. I get it.

Mexican R&D paid for this scorpion anti-venom yet the woman was charged over 80K for medication that costs 100 dollars in the country that developed it. The average citizen would be committing a crime if they brought the anti-venom across the boarder and sold it at a 10% markup. Why has our government given the "health care industrial complex" the right to skull fuck people in medical distress?

Speaking of "R&D" costs; why is it that Americans are forced to shoulder the burden for developing drugs? Why are drugs less costly in other countries that were developed here? Why do WE have to pay for the worlds medication?

R&D costs aren't drug specific. They're pooled and split accordingly. If a drug company researches 30 drugs, and only 2 make it past trial, then those 2 shoulder the burden for R&D. You can't put those costs on drugs that don't make it to market.

You also can't put the R&D costs on the world's poor. Someone has to pay it.

I get that you don't like it, but propose a worthy solution instead of bitching about it.

Do you have any idea as to how many hundreds of millions of $$$ go into getting a drug approved? I do! Phase I trial, then a Phase 2. Finally, if the drug shows safety and efficacy a Phase 3 commences. The manufacturing is not a significant part of the overall sunk costs. I know of a small company who got approval for a potential blockbuster drug filed Chapter 11 due to all the costs in getting the drug approved and the slower than expected rollout. You seemingly know little about how a drug is brought to market.

Finally. Someone with a clue on how the drug development process works.

There's no question that the fees and charges in the healthcare industry are ridiculous. But go after the right things to make it cheaper. Things like Tort reform, or unneeded/unwanted tests, etc.

Do you know that medical "science" uses the excuse that their stuff is tested, therefore it is "science" while other stuff that works fine will never be tested? Try nebulizing some colloidal silver the next time you have a lung infection. It works better than anything medical science has but it will never be tested because it can't be patented. Cure your back/joint/bursitis problems with hyaluronic acid, takes about five weeks but don't tell your doctor, he will be upset because you use untested stuff. It will never be tested because it's naturally occuring in healthy bodies and in nature, can't be patented. Your doctor doesn't have a cure for those problems of course, only expensive operations and pain relief.
