What happened to the money? You already know. Much of it was wasted and some of it was used for "services".
It went into the real estates in Washington, lawyers, bureaucratic pensions, lobbyist's pockets, transfer payments, handouts to big corporations, advertising etc.
It has always amazed me that people believe in tax and spend. For every dollar taken, some of it disappears in administration costs. Charities are required to report that amount but government is not required to. Why not? Would taxpayers be so content to hand it over if they knew the efficiency of their investment in "services".
If the government really did produce something of value for the money they remove from other potentially productive purposes, that fact would be trumpeted by every politician and lobbyist. Unfortunately the silence is deafening!
