Official: US sea captain freed in swift firefight

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Navy has rescued the American sea captain held by Somali pirates.

"A senior U.S. intelligence official said hostage Richard Phillips was not hurt in what appeared to be a swift firefight off the Somali coast on Sunday. Phillips was safely transported to a Navy warship nearby.

The official said three pirates were killed and one was injured.

The official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity."

Great job by General David Petraeus, Admiral Gary Roughead, the Administration, and the FBI in handling this most difficult situation.

A very happy ending on Easter for Captain Phillips and his Family and friends back in Vermont.

Yes. one white american gets captured and there are destroyers navy seals etc on the scene.

but 2 asian-americans are in the hands of the korean commies and nary a word.

A fourth pirate surrendered after boarding the Bainbridge earlier in the day and could face life in a U.S. prison. He had been seeking medical attention for a wound to his hand and was negotiating with U.S. officials on conditions for Phillips' release, military officials said.

So, this guy was on the Bainbridge negotiating with the Americans when the rescue went down. It must have sucked to be him when he found out the hostage was rescued and his buddies were dead. Wonder what he said right about then? "Heeeeyyy, let's just call the whole thing off, huh?"
