US ETF - S & P 500 - A rookie mistake

@Olive1989, I would think that a UK account with IB should allow you to buy US equities or ETF's, I don't see the issue. As always you'd be having to deal with the FX as well as trade & account maintenance fees & per trade cost
Have you called them to clarify that you want to buy/trade US equities?
As suggested above a Vanguard, Blackrock may be another alternative.
Did a quick look around to see any alternatives.

I think you want CSSPX. My IB ticker lists the exchange as LSEETF. It is less common to hedge the currency when purchasing stocks outside of your local currency.

From what I can see CSSPX is traded in Dollars, I'd imagine to mitigate the FX risk I would be best of using GBP, is that correct?
If so the other equivalent I can see is CSP1 which is in GBP but is currently 22649 - So does this mean I would invest X amount of £ as opposed to X amount of stocks?
Or, there is - IE00B5BMR087 - ticker SXR8 - in Euros.
I'm based in the Uk so would make sense for it to be GBP OR as is is domiciled in Ireland would that mean the price would always be in Euro?
Is there one that is in GBP that isn't 22649 and has a smaller price so I can buy X amount of them?

Hi never2old, from my extremely limited knowledge form the UK you are unable to buy US ETF from IBUK - You can however buy the ones listed above. I did call them and this was confirmed I believe it was a regulatory change in 2018 that has changed this for all brokers based in Europe.

You can then see the effects it has in your currency positions. You can also try contacting Blackrock or Vanguard to help you with specific questions about their products.

There is a way of getting US-domiciled ETFs with IBUK, you have to use options. But there are several downsides and minor risks associated, starting with minimal 100 unit purchase and then different dividend taxation that are most common.

I wonder are there any tools or charts that could help you calculate such risk, lets say you would enter ETF index company list and claim that there's 50% tech crash and/or 30% healthcare crash etc, and it would try to calculate ETF/index worth after such crash. In theory you could do it by yourself but it would be time-consuming.
