which bases did the US open next to China in the last 20 years again?
I guess you haven't read the news lately. We are reactivating Subic Bay in Philippines, about 150 miles to Scarborough Shoal. That is inside South China Sea.

China is no paragon of responsible resource use, so no, I don't think democracies in Asia using ancient shipping lanes being prohibited from doing so because a body of water carries a "china name" is worse than China monopolizing said lanes for their wares.I'm not saying 100% either way, force for good force for bad. What I am saying, though, is that the US military is largely, largely, a force for the securement and extraction of resources worldwide, to feed capitalism, manufacturing, consumption, and profits. This stance is becoming more clear as the world's people are increasingly in competition for dwindling resources.
Perhaps none of that would matter if the planet had infinite space, infinite materials, infinite energy, and infinite waste sinks. It does not. Because of its historically lucky position vis a vis the availability of an "untapped" continent, the US is in a position to exacerbate the suffering the rest of the world is increasingly enduring, even as it is responsible for much of that suffering--or at least responsible far in excess of its per capita presence on Earth.

and who started building bases in the s.China sea recently? My reading is just fineDude, do you even read? Who is making the money from Pentagon? Chairman of that firm is Dan Quayle, an old Bush hand. LOL
On Nov. 9, U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Mary Kay Carlson visited Subic Bay and the shipyard that U.S. private firm Cerberus Capital Management LP acquired this year. The Philippine Navy has also begun occupying part of the shipyard as its new naval base.
