UPS drivers average 170k?

California Highway Patrol is offering $120,000 to start and another $60,000 in benefits. $250,000 after you get promoted to a fair position. The Chief of PD make’s $500,000.

Not bad. And now the public doesn't want them to stop or arrest anyone out there, which makes it an easier gig.

Why bother going to college when there's this kind of pay in labor jobs?

Average college grad on the US can't find a job and if they do it's $55k per year

I was a trucker for 16 years. I'll tell you why..

About 50% of those who get a CDL and secure an over-the-road
position will QUIT within 9 months. Another 20% will quit as
soon as they experience how out right frustrating and DANGEROUS
it is to drive during the WINTER MONTHS.

The trucking industry has always been heavily short drivers, and
hence why some Companies will try to convince experienced
drivers with $5000 to $10,000 sign on bonuses.

Recruiters earn anywhere from $2000 to $5000 per driver,
IF they can get them to a Company Orientation.

Even experienced truckers who like the job get burnt out
and usually bounce from Job to Job trying to find the right fit.

Most people do not have the mentality it takes to work
65 to 70 hours every week with only 2 days off after 2 to 3 weeks on the road.

Not to mention the STRESS is insane. My BP is now down to 155/90
with meds, but when I was on the road I was a driving heart-attack
waiting to happen.

My friend worked as a trucker during the Summer instead of a low paid hospital job while getting his medical degree at UCLA. San Diego to Santa Barbara, he loved making $12 hr vs $2.65 a hr.

Negative. I was a seasonal driver in 2013 and became friends with some full timers. Back then, it took 3 years to get to the top hourly rate which was 35/hr, which is 70k/year if they only worked 40 per week. It's more like 45/hr now, and they ALWAYS work at least 40/wk during slow times, and it's more like 60/wk during the Xmas season. Do the math and they're already more than half of 170/year.

It's a good gig, and I enjoyed it, but it can be brutal.

I remember delivering a package at 11:00 pm on Xmas eve. That was a hell of a long day, but it was worth it to see the look on the people's faces when they opened the door. Oh yeah, it was also in the middle of a blizzard. Good times.
 
Got a younger brother who makes $100k+ driving a Fedex 18-wheeler (not Fedex Ground) 20 plus years shuttling loaded and empty trailers between NYC and Newark Airport. Rough, but he does it through the night so traffic is only half-cra-cra.

He can't wait to put in his papers so he can get some sleep. lol
