A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study found that unvaccinated individuals who have had COVID-19 are twice as likely to face reinfection as individuals who have received the vaccine.

The study, published as part of the agency's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), examined hundreds of residents, finding that the unvaccinated individuals had 2.34 times greater odds of reinfection compared with fully vaccinated individuals.

The residents were aged 18 or older and had previous COVID-19 infections in 2020 and experienced a second infection between May and June 2021 – the time period that aligns with the emergence and spread of the delta variant.

"If you have had COVID-19 before, please still get vaccinated," said Centers for Disease Control Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky in a statement released Friday. "This study shows you are twice as likely to get infected again if you are unvaccinated."

"Getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others around you, especially as the more contagious Delta variant spreads around the country," she added.

The delta variant has shown to be far more transmissible than other strains of COVID-19; Walensky noted in mid-July that the variant is "spreading with incredible efficiency and now represents more than 83% of the virus circulating the United States."

However, the CDC stressed that the COVID-19 vaccines remain safe and effective and are the best way to prevent infection.

MMWR also published a study that pointed to the success of the vaccines in preventing COVID-19 related hospitalizations among the highest-risk age groups.

The second study indicated that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in adults aged 65-74 were 96% effective in preventing hospitalization – a figure that dropped only slightly to 91% in populations over 75 years in age.

The Janssen vaccine – produced by Johnson & Johnson – is 85% effective in both age groups.

That effectiveness is still more than double the effectiveness of the average flu shot, which in 2019-2020 was 39% effective.

Unfortunately, it not a very well designed study, therefore, it is hard to have much confidence in the results.

Vaccination alone will not save you from Corona Virus. Actually, I suspect a huge number of new Corona Virus infections come from the vaccines itself. That is why I take Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 and Zinc Gluconate even before I got the Moderna vaccines and up to this day, I still take it daily. Strengthening your immune system like a doctor suggested is probably, the best way to go. Just came back from Las Vegas and everyone inside was masked up at the MGM Grand. Also, went to Wynn, Paris casinos. Everyone is masked up yet, extreme liberals continue to spread fear and paranoia. Las Vegas strip was packed, felt like there was a million people out and about. We went to watch Bellagio fountain at around 10 pm, July 30. Police was out in force, all 20 of them. A huge number of people were either drunk or high on drugs. You can smell it although, I was wearing a KN95 mask.

In fact, there are a few here that's been called "left" that do not like mandates. Yet, keep in mind...government employees fall under the authority of the U.S. President. He can mandate federal employees to be vaccinated or do xyz.

Thus, the President of the United States gives people an option...vaccinate or wear a face mask but be subjected to weekly (daily) covid tests. Personally, I prefer that instead of telling people they only have one choice...that's to vaccinate.

• In contrast, there are private businesses and private hospitals requiring employees to vaccinate or have a letter from their Doctor that explains why they can not be vaccinated due to a medical condition or be fired.

Once again, in those situations involving the latter... it's up to the owners of those businesses that are Democrats or Republicans. Simply, don't be mistaken to think those mandating vaccines are Democrats only except for the case of the U.S. government involving federal employees following orders from their U.S. Democrat President.

I'm a fan of the options and not a fan of a mandate to vaccinate only. I know a few people that refuse to be vaccinated but they're OK with being required to wear a face mask to work and to be Covid tested on a regular basis.

Regardless, those not vaccinated are now putting a burden on society and the worst ones are the ones that refuse to be vaccinated and refuse to wear a face mask. Ok...I get it that there are assholes out there like that but they will not be allowed to use the same resources/services as those that are vaccinated.

Now...most of those hospitalized are people that are not vaccinated and they now risk impacting the health care of others that need medical care at the same hospitals for other aliments (e.g. broken arm)...it should not have gotten this way again but Covidiots out there are stubborn and selfish...

P.S. I mention the above-broken arm as an example. In South Dakota, at my brother's hospital...a little kid with a broken arm...had to wait 7 hours at the hospital because the hospital had most of their medical personnel dealing with Covid patients...almost all were not vaccinated.

Screw those not vaccinated...they reap what they sow.

Except that they can get the virus and it can spread and mutate among them and then potentially put everyone at risk, depending on the mutation. Someone’s freedom at another’s expense is not freedom. Besides, enough young people without underlying health conditions were seriously stricken by the virus to give everyone pause.

And they will spread it to other young and healthy who will be just fine 99.9999% of the time. For the others who are unhealthy and/or older, who have chosen to remain unvaxxed that is on them. They will live or die with their decision. Further, I do not care at all that as a vaccinated person I can spread the virus. Not my problem, and not a problem for those that have been vaccinated. UNLESS we have been lied too about the effectiveness of the vaccine. If that's the case then our government, the entire healthcare and pharma industry, and the CDC have purposely misled the American people and should suffer the gravest of consequences for doing so. Unless and until that plays out I will go with the vaccine works, it works very well, and has minimal side effects in the overwhelming majority of cases. Anyone who chooses to believe otherwise has made their own decision and risk analysis. That's how it works in a free country Comrade.

There are all the time new variants, nobody can guarantee that the vaccination will work for all the new variants that were only active AFTER the statements of the effectiveness of the vaccine. More people vaccinated means less possibility for the virus to create new variants and spread them. So even the vaccinated will feel the impact of the behavior of the non vaxxers.
And because of the non vaxxers you will have to wear a mask longer, have to respect distance rules, etc...

I am curious how you will be able to proof that the government and the pharmaceutical sector lied. LOL.

Less than the year ago, Biden, Harris and pretty much the entire dem party were saying they did not trust the effectiveness or safety of any vaccine that was developed while Trump was in office. It was the left that pushed the skepticism about the vaccine. They take the wheel in January, a vaccine fully in place and already being administered, and suddenly everyone MUST be vaccinated. First they say don't do it, now not only do they endorse it, they want to mandate it. And then wonder why all the confusion and lack of faith in the vaccine.
