Unmovable files moved

In defragmenting my hard drive I discovered the single green band(green equals unmovable files), which I always assumed to be my XP operating system, is now split into two bands. Has my hard drive moved these files because it is wearing out or about to die, or for some other reason? Thanks.

That is probably your page file and it can be split into segments. I prefer to not have windows manage it. Instead I set it to 1.5x my RAM size and keep it that way. You can force it to just have one block that doesn't move. The benefit is that it will not fragment your drive so much.
