Unemployed Americans are no longer ashamed, America is becoming... Europe!

Quote from MohdSalleh:

in the UK, jobless benefits are 60 pounds a week. in the USA, its 2k a month.

Not quite.

Housing benefits in the uk bring it up to the same amount as you quote for the USA.

That's why i only said jobless benefits. but we also have section 8 housing, so we still win.

I live in the only country in the world which has everlasting unemployment benefits and our budget deficit this year is estimated to come in at 4.5 %.

Ergo:

The UK and the US should lengthen their unemployment benefits to reduce their monstrous deficits.

Our unemployed probably receive too much. They should experience a sense of desperation.

Quote from crgarcia:

In the past those unemployed always said something like
"I'm about to enter an internship program at company XYZ..."

Not anymore.
They say they are unemployed and period.
Not even slightly ashamed.

Like in Europe!

Like Europe???

Well if not being ashamed of being unemployed can result in clean streets, low violent crime rate, universal access to good medical care, small impoverished class, big middle class, small super wealthy class, great bread, beer, wine, arts and a passenger rail system, then i'm OK with it. :D
