UN control of the internet

Is this a big deal or nothing to worry about?:

I presume it means that they would control the assignment of domain names and not much other control. Still, it smacks of Jimmy Carter giving the Panama Canal away. Why must the USA lose control of something that technically was developed in the USA?

Why does the US put up with the UN? What exactly do we get for our membership? Is there any upside at all?

The UN is just an arm of a collection of countries that want to harm the U.S. I think we should just quit funding it but that won't happen.

If Congress gives the U.N. control of the Internet it is a big deal.
