UBS expects to report small third-quarter profit

UBS said Thursday that it expects to report a small profit in the third quarter. The bank also said that it has substantially reduced its U.S. commercial and residential mortgage-related positions, mainly through disposals. UBS has developed a remediation plan to address issues highlighted by the credit crisis and said it has has made substantial progress. 2009 is expected to be profitable overall, it added.
