Uber’s board plans to approach Facebook operating chief Sheryl Sandberg about filling its newly vacant CEO spot, The Post has learned.

The Sandberg idea is being pushed by Uber board member Arianna Huffington in the wake of Travis Kalanick’s surprise resignation as chief executive late Tuesday, according to a source close to the board.

Insiders say former Disney operating chief Tom Staggs is also a leading candidate for the CEO job. Indeed, Staggs already interviewed at the company ahead of Kalanick’s exit, according to one source, as the ride-sharing app scrambles to recover from a slew of scandals this spring.

I don't like uber. It's basically a scam that abuses people who are down on their luck. I'd collect welfare before I ever drove a cab for uber.

How is it a scam? If you sign up to drive for them its not like you are stuck with it and can't leave. If you don't make enough for it to be worth it, then just don't do it. I know several people who just drive during busier times or when they need a little extra cash and they seem to like it as an option. To be fair I use Lyft more than Uber though.
 
But you can't make enough for it to be worth it. Yea, nobody forces anyone to sign up for it, but nobody forces anyone to send money to Nigerian Princes either.

I've got a friend who doesn't work a regular shift at his job, he hangs out around Vanderbilt's campus and will give rides (via Uber) to people who don't want to walk to class, surprisingly a ton. Anyways, I think the minimum fare is something like $5, he said he gives several rides an hour without hardly driving any distance at all netting him a solid hourly rate and minimal in gas and wear and tear.

I get what you are saying though, not necessarily going to make a solid living with it, but there are definitely some good ways to work it that will make people enough to be worth it. Doesn't take a lot of rides to do better than people in my area make for unskilled labor.

I have 2 friends that are drivers. Both eventually signed out of Uber and only do Lyft. They said Uber was definitely not worth it dollar wise and the customer service was bad if they had any issues. I see these ads offering these bonuses for new drivers, I think Uber is in big trouble. beyond the scandals, they have lost more money ($2Billion in just 18 months) than any other tech startup in history.

If that was true, then no one would be driving for Uber. They would have an attrition rate higher than Amazon and eventually word would get around that it's not worth doing.
