U.S. Virgin Islands starts seizing guns

Kinda wishing I had a couple like that.

Easy enough to buy arms in Colorado, but background check and "purchased/transferred ownership through FFL" required... even through 3rd-party sales since latest legislation.

:(

Have one pistol and one rifle with no paperwork other than a third party doc I signed that the owner almost certainly trashed the moment we did the deal. A second pistol was bought from a friend, who got it from a friend, etc. Completely untraceable. Not that I would ever do anything illegal with it, short of disobey a disarm command when I needed the weapon.

I thought the background check info had to be destroyed within a short time period.

The FBI's requirement does. But I don't count on them doing that. Additionally, public sellers of firearms usually keep records indefinitely, which allows the FBI to go to them if they have to.

I hadn't thought about that angle. Not good. A little research confirmed what you wrote:

Firearm Sales Records. Federal law requires licensed firearms dealers to maintain records of gun sales indefinitely, including information about the firearm(s) being purchased, as well as the purchaser. Federal law prohibits the federal government from collecting firearm sales records in a central repository, however.

So it looks like gun shows and private sellers are the way to go, at least for some items.

I think it is a good idea to keep some weapons stashed off-site in a secure location but where they can be retrieved in an emergency.

Such as...a cabin in the woods of North Carolina? Hmm, what an interesting idea.

HAHAHAHA
Yeah right.
The Easter Bunny does it.

Everybody's a comedian these days.

The last time I bought a gun, the background check came back and the gun dealer said "well, you passed okay so that means they haven't caught you yet."

I get no respect.
