U.S. Infrastructure Renewal: Who Should Pay the Bill?

You seem a spritely fellow then. So you will be riding your "bike" in ten years? Twenty? Fifty? You will never need other means of transport?

Well, stout pixie, I pray that in your lifetime they will come out with flying cars. We need the flying cars. Where the hell are the flying cars.

We need our flying cars!!!!!!!!!!!!

My point isn't I'll never drive, the point is the cost of car ownership I the US is vastly subsidized and the cost of ownership should reflect that.

This can be done fairly with an excise tax that taxes a product that the use of which damages public assets.

The answer is obvious to everyone beyond most Americans it seems. American tax payers will have to pay higher personal taxes and health care costs for at least 10 years until the US gets it's books righted. Just like Canada had to do in the past when our national debt to GDP went to record levels in the 1980s. Failing to do so only shifts the burden to younger American generations and that just isn't practical anymore.

Better try something new!

I wonder how found that chart.:)

US citizens have had a grudge against paying any sort of taxes since 1776.
Cali the richest state won't cough up to end gridlock on the roads, pollution in the cities or even pipe in sufficient water. Tight wads !

Plenty of money for even more rockets and bombs though. Get your priorities right guys.

Same here in the UK with Mrs Poodle. Do we really need 4 more expensive nuclear subs and 2 huge aircraft carriers to combat the occasional terrorist looney ?

We need better quality politicians and more sensible voters.
