U.N. Demands U.S. Pay Reparations To African-Americans

I'm for reparations and I'll tell you why. It's just a matter of basic fairness and equity and justice. Aggrieved parties should be compensated.

And that's why I think white people should be awarded a sum of money commensurate with what they've had to put up with for the last fifty years. The level of crime by blacks has gone parabolic and made cities where blacks live to be somewhere between dangerous and no-go zones for whites for far too long. Whites should be compensated for this gross injustice and awarded a sum that a blue ribbon panel of economists calculate represents the harm that has been inflicted upon them.

This has nothing to do with the fact that I'm white. It's just that we need to do this for fairness. For the children.

Slavery was 400 years ago. My family was not even here when it occurred.

Given the terrible environment the Africans left compared to the environment they were brought to I do not believe reparations are due.

The slaves that were brought to America were already enslaved by their fellow Africans (or arabs) and being brought to America was a transition which was a step up.

As a matter of fact I think each Black American should be billed for the one way ticket. Probably about $600 a piece in todays money.

They could go back to Africa. I believe there WAS a movement to transport African Americans back to Africa...but there were few takers.

Rather than reparations I would be in favor of making available a one-way ticket to any place in Africa to any black person if the person would renounce American Citizenship and all benefits that flow therefrom.

Someone also needs to mention that the vast majority of black Americans came to the U.S. voluntarily after 1865.
