Twitter says it's being acquired by Elon Musk

More liberals crying in their tofu tonight.

Cute. Would be a change from the croc tears of Christian nationalist Qanon types.

I think Musk understands that his Tesla business is at risk of devolving into a blue/red dichotomy that could potentially affect results and slow its intent. Tesla’s success this far is primarily driven by left and centrists middle and up classes. He needs buy in from the right and acquiring Twitter is part of that effort.
I look forward to his implementations, primarily the one requiring true identity to post, like it is required in Europe. Cockroaches and rats spread diseases in the dark, not in the light. Everyone should be able to contribute to social discourse as long as each takes accountability for their spoken/written words.

Musk, a friend of Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey, often attacks Twitter and its content moderation policies. How exactly Musk will change the social platform, though, remains to be seen.
I was watching an interview with him on TED a few days ago. He said that free speech and spam problems are the most important that should be solved.

I have plenty of conservative friends that own Teslas. They bought them because the perception was that they were getting a quality product in many forms.

If Tesla vehicles started spontaneously catching on fire and breaking down, those conservatives might stop buying them. That's his biggest risk. A Tesla is a performance vehicle that can haul ass and most conservatives understand that fossil fuels aren't going away any time soon - no matter how many EVs are on the road. Fossil fuel is being used to get power to the Tesla outlet in the garage...and the Prius plug...and the Bolt plug.

I think the right appreciates that Musk is out there calling things like he sees them, whether they agree with him or not.

Your conservative friends are perhaps of the conservative generation and not of the populist nationalist breed that likes to drive oversized trucks and block charging parking just to piss off EV owners and other imbeciles who like to scratch Teslas, not realizing they're on camera?

It's not uncommon for entities with significant funds to grab something like this, take a few years and clean things up - then do another IPO and get their own cash out of it.

It's going to be interesting to see where Twitter goes from here. Musk certainly has admirable intentions but the practice of achieving a true proper balance may be harder than he thinks. Sometimes the dog likes chasing the car more than actually catching it.

i wouldn’t call his intentions admirable. He skirted several laws in building his Twitter stake.

Twitter has like 210MM "monetizable" daily users.
I wonder what percentage of those would pay an annual subscription.
Elon could structure a tiered level, and even keep a free level, but in a way, he bought a monopoly and some of these people can literally be forced to pay. They'll have no choice if they want to keep posting. Unless they want to migrate to DWAC and that ain't gonna happen.

For example, every municipality in the US has a Twitter account. They should pay an annual rate for that privilege. Ditto every politician. Every company in the fortune $500. Every small business. But it will have to be tiered level. Joe's plumbing won't have to pay as much as Proctor and Gamble.

I dunno, but I think Elon has thought this out and he's ten steps ahead of everyone. He's gonna get it going, redo the entire model with regards to monetization, and then take it public again. He'll make money off of the deal. Morgan Stanley knows this too, pretty sure he had to let them in on his plan. My guess is the ad revenue as it exists now, but there will be no more free Twitter for at least 30% of that 200MM # above.

I wrote this two years ago, that Twitter is one of the most powerful companies in the world. People rolled their eyes. Elon didn't.

If you want to play in this space.... buy Twitter.
The sell-off on the hack was a golden opportunity.
Its not going away.
Its one of the most powerful company's in the world.

I think we all have people that vote the same as us that we are not proud of.

Morons like you...

You mean his offer of 6 billion bucks to end world hunger and when the UNICEF called his bluff, crickets?

Musk wanted the money to actually reach entities that could really and truly work to make things better. UNICEF was all about using the money to further line the pockets of their bureaucrats and funding programs that did nothing to feed anyone. He called it out for what it was...but hey...your headlines and inaccurate sound bites make for great red meat for the frothy "super woke" base, so keep going with that and leave all those pesky facts out of it.
