Twitter and Musk

So I heard LinkedIn suspended Vivek Ramaswamy's account for a time being for something he wrote.

Initially his people were informed he was "inciting violence" and spreading disinformation, etc. Ie... tough luck, you're banned. Then, after several Right-leaning media outlets got involved, they backed down and turned his account back on. I have not read any of the details so in a way this is second hand. But I suspect it's true.

Now this guy is running a serious campaign to become President of the United States... and I'm gonna go out on a limb here based on what I have seen of him... he's anything but stupid. I find it hard to believe he wrote anything that in any way could be interpreted as "inciting violence".

It sounds to me like this was just the opinion of a VERY FEW individuals that disagreed with what he said and had the power to revoke his account. And I guess the fact that they backed down reaffirms my assumption. That's scary.

Who owns LinkedIn btw?
This is the exact type of stuff that while you constantly hold Elon in contempt for rebuilding Twitter as best as he knows how.... you should also be throwing Laurel leaves at his feet for NOT stifling free-speech in the manner LinkedIn apparently attempted on a Presidential candidate last week.

LinkedIn is a pretty powerful force in the career-seeking world... so what's really scary here is not only the above incident, but what it can mean to the average young professional if one reads between the lines. You play by their politics and their leanings... or you pretty much f any hopes of career advancement in your chosen field because they dominate the professional job-search market... or a big damn part of it.

So before you cast any more stones at Elon... at least consider the above.

Vivek criticized Biden's sketchy relationship with China, and also said that we need to do more fossil fuel development and not let climate types shut the country down. All in the same post I think. So the lefty thought police followed their orders and shut his account down.

Then Linked in said it was a mistake. Yeh, okay, I guess. They were cleaning their keyboard and it went off on them like as happens to some idiots when they clean their guns. Or what their lame excuse is.

I will bet you two nipples and a dime that Elon will read that and Vivek will be doing a townhall over on Twitter with Elon very soon. And if that goes glitchy the lefties will howl, and if it goes perfectly and they have a good session, the lefties will howl too.

.

Kind of like when one parent makes a complaing and a book gets banned at school.....sucks amirite?

You fail to to address the fundamental question. Did Vivek Ramaswamy's posts on LinkedIn violate LinkedIn's policies for misinformation. The answer clearly is Yes. It is a shame that he gets a pass simply because he is a presidential candidate.

Let's get back to Elon Musk's pandering to dictators. Prior to Elon taking over Twitter, the company's response to Erdoğan's demands that accounts of opposition politicians be taken down was "we are not going to do that and we defy you to ban Twitter in the country" -- because let's point out once again under the Turkish Constitution merely being an opposition politician is not against the law. In fact the Turkish Constitution states "Turkey is a secular (2.1) and democratic (2.1) republic (1.1) that derives its sovereignty (6.1) from the people."

None of these opposition politicians running for office posted any illegal or defaming material. Most just posted information boosting themselves and never mentioned Erdoğan.

Sadly after Musk took over Twitter he caved to Erdoğan and removed Twitter accounts of opposition politicians in Turkey. In fact this censorship for no reason on behalf of a dictator is against Turkish law.

Elon Musk loves dictators and he has been pandering to account take down requests from authoritarian clowns from around the globe (Erdoğan, Modi, etc.) None of these accounts violated local laws.

Typical of the quality of the crap shoveled by Musk.

Elon Musk tweets quote by neo-Nazi wrongly attributed to Voltaire
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-tweets-quote-neo-220706682.html

Twitter users on Saturday were quick to point out that a quote shared by CEO Elon Musk had been misattributed to Voltaire – when it had in fact originated with a neo-Nazi.

The billionaire tweeted a joke featuring a meme that showed a large hand crushing struggling figures with the accompanying words: “’To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.’ – Voltaire” Underneath that, the meme includes the joking comment: “we need to rise up against children with leukemia.”

The very same “Voltaire” quote, however, was the subject of a fact-check piece last year from The Associated Press after Republican Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie shared it in a tweet criticizing Dr Anthony Fauci, also attributing the words to the French philosopher.

“Enlightenment-era writer Voltaire did not say this,” AP reported. “The quote, which was paraphrased, comes from a 1993 radio broadcast by Kevin Alfred Strom, who has been identified as a neo-Nazi by organizations that monitor hate groups.”

The AP continued: “The original quote from Strom, a self-proclaimed American white nationalist and Holocaust denier, has been used previously online and paraphrased in a variety of ways ... Despite the quote originating more than a hundred years after Voltaire’s death in 1778, it has been repurposed and incorrectly attributed to him dozens of times. In 2019, actor John Cusack tweeted the quote before deleting the post and apologizing.”

On Saturday, Musk’s tweet remained for hours without correction or apology as users pointed out the inaccuracy, some with glee and some with scorn.

“If only your ability to launch rockets or presidential campaigns was as good as your ability to launch misinformation,” tweeted commentator and author Keith Olbermann. “Voltaire didn’t say that. A neo-Nazi said that. 30 years ago. Good work, Elmo.”

Another user, @HistoryUser, shared a Reuters fact-check link and wrote: “This was not said by Voltaire but by Kevin Strom, a neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier. It’s a cool quote and I wish it had been said by a better dude, but it wasn’t, and so people should really stop using it. (And definitely stop saying Voltaire said it!)”

The Independent has reached out to Twitter for comment.

So in summary, Twitter pulled out of the European Union's code of practice regarding online disinformation. The EU has stated that despite Twitter leaving the organization, the European Union will enforce new social media rules starting this August -- and all the rules apply to Twitter. In response Musk threatens to pull out of the EU market; EU says "good riddance, be gone". So Elon -- losing all the EU revenue certainly won't set Twitter back further, eh?

How it started:

.... He is against garbage hiding behind avatars and pseudonyms spewing nonsense, and he's got a point. It won't be easy to find a solution but I'm pretty sure he's got a good idea about how to do it.
All this nonsense about his supposed right wing ideas is as bad as the nonsense he received about his left wing ideas with electric vehicles.

,,, he would find a way for Twitter to force individuals to show who they are. Speech is only free when posters are held accountable for what they write. I'm very pleased with what he is doing.

...Shit talking will come to an abrupt stop a...
...What he will prevent is junk, scams and other nonsense tweets ... Advertisers will clearly appreciate a healthier environment and I think many who leave today will return when they realize that Musk isn't interested in letting Twitter run wild. ...

Well... If you can dismiss all non blue account (or whatever it's called) in settings, you get civilized discussions. If media wants to amplify the shit talkers, it's on us to switch off.
Soap boxes become untenable when anyone and everyone is able to spew. From lonesome mentally challenged, bullies, smart asses or the manipulative groups pushing agendas, the idealistic space is easily overwhelmed and turns off the great majority looking to exchange ideas.

...
Non paying accounts are anyone else wanting to discuss whatever. As long as the contributions are relevant they will be able to post. The shitposters will be deleted before or as soon as posted and no one will care.
...Twitter into a profitable business and a platform on which people will take the conversation far above the gutters that some want. Let 4Chan or 8Chan take that shit show over there.
I think we should let the dogs bark before suggesting anything political from Musk. ...
